Badoink Launch PassthroughVR – A Mixed Reality VR Porn Site

Way back in early 2020, top VR porn site/studio BadoinkVR promised us that AR pornstars were coming soon. For a time, they even had a free demo access site housed on the BadoinkAR.com domain. If I remember correctly, it consisted only of one or two 3D hologram pornstars, very much in the manner of Naughty America’s AR girls. These were pornstars scanned with volumetric capture and turned into what appeared to be holograms that you could move around as you looked through your smartphone camera.

Sadly, Badoink AR never got beyond the demo stage and was abandoned after a year or so. However, since then a different type of ‘AR porn’ has taken off, viewed through a VR headset in passthrough or mixed-reality mode. SexLikeReal, and VRPorn.com have led the way, along with CzechAR (which sadly hasn’t updated since June of this year). Now that the cheap color mixed-reality enabled Meta Quest 3S has launched and is expected to sell hundreds of thousands in the holiday period, perhaps its no surprise that another big site such as Badoink has launched its own passthrough porn studio, with the videos available to experience at RealVR.com

Passthrough porn is, of course, not true volumetric (or ‘hologram’) AR porn. It consists of regular VR porn videos, either filmed in front of a green or grey screen, or edited post-production, in which the pornstar appears to be with you in your own home environment when viewed in passthrough mode. The fact that its not what is technically meant as augmented reality hasn’t stopped porn studios and fans alike from referring to it as AR porn. So it’s noteworthy that Badoink has opted to name their new studio PassthroughVR, rather than market it using AR terminology. Perhaps this is simply because the passthrough videos will appear on their RealVR.com site or, more hopefully, it’s because they still have plans to pursue volumetric ‘true AR’ porn.

As of now, four passthrough videos have been released at RealVR, two of them filmed in front of a grey screen for passthrough, and the other two older Badoink VR scenes edited to exclude the background.
