Double Standards Much? Cute and Childish Female Sex Toys Latest Trend
I’ve written a few times about the awful double standard when it comes to the media talking about AI companions, with AI girlfriends invariably represented as a toxic threat to men, women, and society, whilst AI boyfriends are presented as something good – with the only potential problem being that the women who use them may be exposed to privacy concerns. Sometimes these double standards are on display at the very same media outlet – I’m looking at you, the BBC. Well now I’ve spotted another double standard, and whilst it may not carry such far-reaching implications for sex tech, it’s equally nauseating in its own way. The infantilization and ‘cutification’ of female sex toys – apparently it’s the latest trend according to Cosmopolitan magazine.
Since then, sex toys seem to be morphing into evermore fantastical shapes — from Satisfyer’s penguin-shaped clit sucker to Unihorn’s unicorn-shaped thumping, licking, and pulsing vibrator collection.
But why has our cute obsession infiltrated our sex toys? Cute is often antithetical to sexy, so can these toys ever really be a turn-on? Or is this a sign that our collective inability to grow up is now impacting our sex lives, too?
Below you can see a selection of female sex toys on offer at SexToys.co.uk
Now whilst women can increasingly take their pick from a selection of childish vibrators and anal toys, including a ‘cute’ pink unicorn vibrator (childish AND animal like) a man has to be careful when choosing a sex doll lest a customs officer and then a judge decides that it might conceivably represent a minor. And the biggest advantage of choosing a ‘petite’ sex doll is the fact that full-size ones weigh a tonne, are impractical to move about and store, and simply cost less. But even if you are buying one for those good reasons, you could get years in prison. Note that I’m simply pointing out the glaring double standards here.
This desire for ‘cute’ female sex toys is part of a wider trend against (human at least) male penis shaped vibrators and dildos. This is something Cosmopolitan magazine celebrates.
In fact, research into what drives sex toy popularity shows that people are dissatisfied with penis-shaped things more broadly (about time!). Just as more and more young women are embracing a ‘celibate’ or ‘boy sober’ lifestyle, it seems they don’t even want their sex toys to resemble male genitals.
Here, the double standard intersects with that of AI companions. AI girlfriends are a danger because they might cause men to drop out of the dating market, which is bad because human relationships are all that matter, as well as resulting in a catastrophic drop in the birth rate. On the other hand, if a woman prefers an AI boyfriend, or a baby unicorn cock shaped vibrator, then it’s simply a case of “YOU GO GIRL!!!”.
