‘Miss AI’ Contest Falls Flat as Organisers Go Silent
Last year the inaugural edition of the Miss AI competition made headlines worldwide: a beauty-pageant style contest for virtual models created with artificial intelligence. It also met an inevitable backlash, with concerns expressed by feminists that it would only further objectify women and reinforce ‘sterotypes’. Perhaps in an act of submission, as well as a nod to digital diversity, the winner was Kenza Layli from Morocco. Her creators declared the award “a recognition of all our efforts in AI and representation of Morocco in this incredible competition.”
In a further nod to the female empowerment, the contest promised to be even grander under a new name — “AI Woman of the Year”. Yet months after the announcement nothing has happened, and the organisers are not responding to a Czech newspaper which has taken an interest in the competition (perhaps miffed that a Czech AI girl didn’t win last year).
The second edition of Miss AI was reported by Novinky during the summer. At that time, the organizers promised to launch the competition in July and that it would run for six weeks. After all, this information is still on the official website of the competition now, in November. Long after the announced date.
Novinky.cz tried to contact the organizers of the competition, but was unsuccessful. No one responded to the questions sent, even after repeated requests.
The organizers of the World AI Creator Awards (WAICA) group evidently preferred other formats, as they managed to announce and evaluate a competition for the best AI music creators in the meantime.
What Promised VS What Happened
- According to organisers from World AI Creator Awards (WAICA), the competition was slated to launch in July and run for six weeks.
- The official website still shows the July launch and 6-week duration — although it’s now November and no further detail has emerged.
- Attempts by Novinky.cz to contact organisers failed — they did not respond to repeated queries.
- Meanwhile, WAICA launched and adjudicated a different contest — one for the best AI music creator. This suggests that their focus may have shifted.
- As a result, everything points to the likelihood that the 2025 edition of Miss AI may be the last — at least as currently conceived.
Last year’s Miss AI competition was the brainchild of an organization called ‘WAICA’ standing for ‘World AI Creator Awards’. Looking at their official website, it would appear they are firmly focused on re-positioning themselves as a serious AI music award organization. With all the backlash and regulation taking place against AI girlfriends, perhaps they have decided that is a safer bet.
